Welcome to My Closet: a Tour

Organization brings me peace.

Organization makes me happy.

Organization helps me feel less anxious.

Organization is an easy thing to control in my crazy world.

Freshly Organized

Why An Organized Place Brings Me Peace

I love a clean and organized closet. Trust me, it regularly looks like a tornado went through it, but it doesn’t stay that way for long. I take my time to hang everything back up and put everything away after I have searched through it and tried multiple things on to put together whatever I want to wear for that day, night, meeting or event.

When I moved in to my loft, I went from having a lot of closet space (and space in general) to having to learn how to use my space more wisely. I love organizing containers, I have used them in last three homes that I have lived in. After my ex husband and I split and my anxiety was through the roof, I took a bit of time in January to massively organize my home. It helped me feel more calm in the chaos of my life. I felt inspired after watching The Home Edit’s Instagram page and went to town with my clear containers first throughout my kitchen, then through my bathroom, and eventually the majority of the closets in my home. I loved living this way and to be honest, it made the moving from my marital home to my first rental home to now my loft so much easier!

My Closet Setup

When I was figuring out the best way to organize my open styled closets at my loft I knew that it had to be visually appealing because it would be something that would be seen not only by me, but also by anyone coming into my home. I also didn’t have a lot of room to move my large dresser in so I had to think of that when it came to designing my space. I brought in a small dresser that I actually took from a friend years ago before she moved out of the area and found the perfect spot to slide it into my closet. In the dresser I have a drawer of pajamas, the second drawer includes workout style tops, tshirts, 1/4 zips, etc. and the third drawer is leggings, joggers, sweats, and comfy shorts.

Storage tucked in every corner!

I purchased different ivory storage containers from Amazon to help my organization. I purchased a pack of three that have one sheer side so I am able to see the contents. One has bras, one has underwear, and shape wear, and the last one contains socks, tights, etc.

More storage bins!!

I also purchased a pack of larger boxes with tops that flip off where I store sweatshirts in one, sweaters in another and swimwear in the last one. The swimwear is currently on the floor of the back of the closet but once it is swim season I will be sliding that up to the spot where the sweaters as and the sweaters will be tucked back away until fall.

Accessories all need a place!

I also purchased some packs of open topped canvas containers, I wasn’t totally sure what I was going to use these for at first, but I easy found the perfect locations for them. Two of them store things like boob tape, fashion tape, nipple covers (you know, the necessities lol), a small steamer, a single stitch gun (amazing for those gapping tops!) and other fashion needs. Then the other three have hats, hanger clips, my embroidered handkerchiefs, etc.

Being low on room changed how display my purses as well, so I found an amazing purse organizer on Amazon to make them stay in their little protected area and don’t fall over.

purse organization
Purses as decor?? In a closet, yes!!

With having less room it is teaching me to live with less “stuff” and I have been switching out for the seasons. I recently switched out all of my boots for some brightly colored shoes that are perfect for spring and then I have almost of my

Fancy shoes need to be shown off, also!

Special occasion style shoes and others that I rarely wear on a large rolling rack in a storage closet (with some other racks of clothes as well). I worked hard to create a functional but visually appealing place because let’s be honest, it’s just more fun to get dressed that way! The top shelf is displayed with shopping bags and boxes because I think it’s fun and I can’t reach that shelf easily so it is just more fun to make it pretty!

Guest Room Closet = Storage Hub

My guest room closet is an entirely different situation. For clothing, it holds my black tie gowns that I have recently worn in the last year, winter boots and some overflow clothing. What I use this closet for is mainly storage for home wares, tools, crafts, paper products, wine, overflow pantry items and other odds and ends. This is my only other closet to store items in so with the exception of my foyer coat closet that holds my laundry products, vacuum, mop, coats, etc. this was a huge change for me as I have generally lived in bigger spaces with more closet space! Learning to live with less stuff has been both a challenge and a wonderful blessing!!

In my guest room closet, I use numerous clear containers to keep my items organized and easy to be able to find what I need. I love the bright room line from Target for these and the Home Edit line from Walmart. These are in my opinion the best clear storage bins I have found and they hold up well. I also use them under my kitchen sink and under both bathroom sinks for organization.

I know all in all that even though it feels like I am low on room and storage options I am still  incredibly fortunate in the amount of room that I have compared to other home options. I love my little loft. It has been such a fun experience! The light is fantastic and feeling so urban has been exciting. I am so thankful for my little piece of the Warehouse District!

Whether you’re working with a tiny space or just craving a bit more calm in your home, organization doesn’t have to be overwhelming—it can actually feel empowering. And honestly, a pretty closet just makes getting dressed way more fun.
